Play a prank on your buddy!!

Okay, I found this nifty prank to play on your enemy buddy!! Okay, what does this prank do?? Glad you asked. When you hold down the right [CTRL] and press [SCROLL LOCK] twice, you'll manually initiate a Blue Screen Of Death, or commonly known as a System Crash. If your fingers are starting to itch, then you may continue reading. But please note: I will not be responsible for any damages, accidents or problems that may arise on your computer.

Before you begin reading the technical stuff, if you're not familiar with Windows Registry, read this part first. Otherwise, continue on to the next part. Windows Registry is just a place to store settings lah (Well, that's what I know about it). You're gonna change some registries after this. Pay attention to what you're changing because altering the wrong settings can really make your computer go nuts. I'm not trying to discourage you or anything lah, it's just to show that you should be careful when altering the Windows registries.

I've tried this on my old desktop computer, but unfortunately it didn't work. Dunno why. But you can try. Remember, you're gonna cause your system to crash (but it is a harmless crash, since it is not associated with any error, just your good ol' itchy fingers that caused it).

Technical mumbo jumbo coming up:
  • Go to Start->Run
  • Type regedit
  • In the registry editor, go to these keys (the things that look like folders. Just open those folders like how you open the folders in your Windows Explorer):
    1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    2. SYSTEM
    3. CurrentControlSet
    4. Services
    5. i8042prt
    6. Parameters
  • On the right side/panel (the place with the Name, Type, Data thingies), right click and select New>DWORD Value.
  • Rename that new DWORD Value to CrashOnCtrlScroll.
  • Double click that DWORD Value and set its settings: In the value data text box, type 1.
  • Restart your comp
  • After restarting, press the right CTRL key and SCROLL LOCK twice to crash your comp.
What happens when it crashes? It shows you the Blue Screen of Death which is, you've guessed it, Blue in colour!! Sometimes, you won't be able to see it because your computer is set to restart when the system crashes. I'm lazy to type how to set your computer NOT TO restart during a crash. It's all in here: http://www.tweakxp.com/article37502.aspx

Oh and by the way, I found out why it didn't work for me. I was holding down the Left Ctrl key. Bummer!! LOL!!

Please note that this prank only works for Windows XP (as far as I know).
